Self care during the holidays

I can hardly believe we are almost already at the end of the year!

This is a friendly reminder to continue to take care of yourself during the holiday season.

Don’t let all your self care practices go out the window! This is when most people get super busy with traveling, shopping, partying, working, staying up too late, drinking, eating on the go and indulging in  lots of holiday treats. Then they wind up exhausted, dehydrated, too tired to exercise and wondering why they get sick right after the holidays.

The good news is that it’s early enough to not default into that routine.  You can definitely start now with small habits that are manageable to maintain during the busy holiday season.

Here are 3 simple ways for staying healthy, balanced and energized during the holiday season.

  • Hydrate!  Come on, you knew this would be one of my tips. Sometimes you just need the reminder, especially in colder months.  I’m convinced that just one 16 oz glass of water every morning, first thing makes a big difference in the immune system and also clears brain fog.  It’s also very important if you wake up achy and stiff and/or have back pain or injury (rehydrate those discs!)
  • Sleep!  On so many levels, life is just better when you get enough sleep.  I know you know this…. but again, just a reminder that getting good sleep is super important for a strong immune system as well as boosting your mood in the cold, dark months.  As things get busier, your need for deep restorative rest increases as well.
  • Schedule Downtime.  I don’t know about you, but I don’t run around as much as I did before the pandemic. I get more done with less rushing, just by spacing out my day instead of trying to do everything at once. What a concept!  Here in NYC we often try to do everything at once. It wasn’t really ever working for me but after being forced into slowing down a bit I have a new pace and I’m much more focused.   My new routine of scheduling the downtime is much. more fun.
  • Sweat! This is probably the time of year you would be most likely to blow off your workouts.  Hello! This is when you need them the most. There is no doubt you will feel amazing by moving your body a little each day.  If a full on workout is not possible then short movement breaks are the way to go. People often ask me about different products that I use and recommend.

Here are a few of my current faves:

I’ve been using this new product from Doterra called MetaPWR which is a power packed metabolic booster that tastes great and contains vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, resveratrol and 9 different types of collagen to promote many health benefits. I’m loving it! My skin is clearer, I’ve noticed my tricky knee (my one trouble joint) has been better, and it helps me sustain my energy through the day.  If you are curious you can watch this quick video about it or click here to read more about it and get 30% off!

As you know I’m all about clean products for cleaning, plus I like to support companies that make natural, toxin free products especially when they go in or on the body.  My friend and fellow Pilates teacher (we did our training together years ago) introduced me to Beautycounter for clean makeup and skincare.  I 100% love it, especially the vitamin C serum, cleansing balm and their natural looking makeup.  They have great gifts for the holidays too!  Click her link here to browse.  Melissa is super helpful if you have any questions she will hook you up!  Here she is on IG.

For my big birthday in August I received something called the Oura Ring.  Its a ring that just looks like a wedding band but really is super accurate when it comes to tracking activity, heart rate, body temp, monthly cycle and sleep.  Sleep!!!  That’s really what I wanted it for.  It’s helping me to understand what helps me to get a better quality sleep and how I can improve it.  It gives you a grade every day on how well you slept.  I think it would be a great gift for someone trying to improve their health habits in the new year.  I must admit I’ve become a little obsessed.  Click here to get $50 off yours!!!
